I’m Maddie, an artist based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I studied Studio Art at Northern Arizona University and, after graduating, spent 15 years working alongside the arts in visual communication. In 2019, I decided it was time to return to my first love—painting.

I spent nine months studying the classical tradition at an atelier in Colorado before continuing my education with some one-on-one mentorships and workshops with several of my favorite contemporary artists. While I work across a variety of mediums (the studio artist in me can’t help it!), I most often find myself reaching for oil paints. After moving to Cape Cod in 2026, I joined a community ceramics studio, where I’ve been exploring the intersection of painting and clay, discovering new ways to tell stories through both surface and form.

No matter the medium, my work returns again and again to mythology, folklore, and storytelling as a way of understanding the human experience. Animals frequently appear as symbolic stand-ins for our emotions, relationships, and identities, offering another language through which to explore what it means to be human.

I’m inspired by ancient myths because those stories have endured for thousands of years and continue to speak to the experiences we all share. Through my work, I hope to pull at the thread that connects us across time: love and loss, family and belonging, humor and heartbreak. Sometimes those stories are told directly, and sometimes they’re expressed using animals as a totem.
